Tree removal and stump removal are priced and scheduled separately because they're different jobs with different equipment. Most customers choose stump grinding, which shreds the stump 4-8 inches below grade so you can plant grass or a new tree over it. Full stump removal - pulling the root ball out of the ground - is more invasive and typically only needed when you're regrading, adding hardscape, or replanting in the exact same spot. When a permit is required
Most private-property tree removal in Boise does not require a city permit. The City of Boise's tree ordinance (Title 7, Chapter 2 of city code) mainly governs trees in the public right-of-way - the strip between the sidewalk and the street - and on other public property. If your tree is a public right-of-way tree, Boise Community Forestry (208-608-7700) requires a permit before pruning or removal and licenses the tree services allowed to do that work.
