Why pruning method matters
Topping - cutting a tree's main leaders back to stubs - is not a pruning method we use, and it's explicitly disallowed on Boise's public trees without City Forester approval. Topping triggers weak, fast-growing regrowth that's more likely to fail in a future storm than the growth it replaced, and it permanently damages a tree's natural form.
